Practical Practice Tips

Practical Practice Tips
Need some practice hints? (Of course first you’ll need to get your instrument out of the closet or from under the bed!)
- Set aside certain times for practicing – schedule them like appointments. A routine can make a big difference.
- Focus on one thing at a time. If you are working on your expression or your tone, you’ll have to ignore your intonation for a moment.
- Create reasonable goals for your practice. If conquering a new difficult piece, divide it up into segments, and work on a part of it each day (remembering to focus on one thing at a time).
- Have patience. Learning is a process.
- Don’t just practice – play music and enjoy!
These are from the SCOR! music camp I attended in Iowa a few weeks ago and I learned so much there. If you want more of the same, check them out. Sign up for Score! e-news to get even more string tips. And check out their main website at www.stringcamp.com.
